About Green Room Ents 

Founded by Julian Bird and Nica Burns, Green Room Ents works internationally across the entertainment spectrum including theatre, award shows and special events, cabaret, television, radio, and new media, as well as consulting in a range of activities.

Led by Julian Bird OBE, the company’s roster of current projects includes: Executive Producer for “Perform in the Park”, a new young people’s theatre festival for summer 2023 at Coram’s Fields in London; and producing the annual Variety Club Showbusiness Awards for Variety, the Children’s Charity.

Looking ahead Green Room Ents are looking after the workshop and showcase for a brand new family musical in September 2023; continuing to work with the Horatio Alger Association in the US on their events; a range of projects and shows for Cunard around the world; as well as a range of other projects in development.

Our team are world leaders in delivering major events from creative design right through all aspects of the production process to successful delivery.

We have worked all over the world, with teams large and small, and with a wide range broadcasters and content makers including BBC, ITV and Sky in the UK.

Julian Bird OBE

Chief Executive, Green Room Ents Ltd

Julian is the Chief Executive of global production company Green Room Ents Ltd which he co-owns with theatre owner and impresario Nica Burns.

 

Until late Spring 2022, Julian was Chief Executive of the Society of London Theatre and UK Theatre and was the Executive Producer for The Olivier Awards and UK Theatre Awards.  Prior to his time at SOLT, Julian was the Chief Operating Officer at the Tate. 

 

During the pandemic, Julian led the theatre sector in the UK in discussions with UK government leading to important policy and funding decisions such as the Cultural Recovery Fund and changed to Theatre Tax Relief.  During this period, Julian led the SOLT team in joining with Sam Mendes to create the Theatre Artists Fund, raising over £10mn to help freelancers during the period when theatres and productions were closed. 

 

As well as producing the UK’s major theatrical awards, Julian has also produced the European premiere of “Sondheim on Sondheim” and the major centenary concert honouring Alan J Lerner, both for the BBC.  He also hosted the weekly show “The Green Room” for Bauer Radio’s new radio channel “Magic at the Musicals”, as well as speaking around the world on theatre and culture.

 

Julian is actively involved in arts charities including acting as the Chair of the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea; and sits on a variety of advisory panels.

 

He was awarded an OBE in the King’s New Year Honours in January 2023.
